In two weeks, I’ll be starting my new job at a leading enterprise search software company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts (I will publicize the name of the company once I start working there but those of you in the industry should know what company I’m talking about). I’ve learned a lot from working at my current company; it was an ideal place to be while switching from quality assurance to development. I will also genuinely miss a lot of my co-workers—that’s probably the hardest part about leaving any organization.
It’s time to move on though. Part of the reason for switching jobs is because the wife and I plan on moving to New York City, so I’ll eventually be based in the company’s NYC office. Another reason why I’m switching is because my new role will give me more client-facing experience, which I’ve been looking to add as I consider the future direction of my career.
I’m *really* excited about my new job. Everyone I talked to during the interview process seemed to genuinely be excited about working there. It will give me an opportunity to learn a lot of new technologies (including .NET, which I’m not sure I’m happy about but I guess it’ll be good to learn, even if it is Microsoft). The new company is really into Agile methodology, which sounds appealing to me. They were also just reported as the fastest growing private company in Massachusetts—even as an engineer, I think it’s essential that you consider the state of the company as a whole. I feel very lucky and very blessed because this job was my top choice as I started my job search.
