I keep hearing all the time about how “bad” it is that the rich keep getting richer while the poor get poorer. I don’t think a lot of people really think about why they believe this is bad.

As you can probably guess, I agree with Gary Becker, the Nobel-prize winning economist from the University of Chicago, that growing inequality, in itself, is not necessarily a bad thing. I believe that inequality is growing, largely because we are discovering new means of creating and generating wealth. It’s not that the rich are stealing money from the poor in order to get richer; instead, the rich are finding more ways to create wealth while the poor are not. This is why education is SO important and why I believe the NEA and all their tactics to make teaching the laziest profession in America are killing this country… anyway, I can write a whole other post on that.
So this post is also in response to that sermon at Redeemer I was offended by. He said flat out that growing inequality is a problem and made the assumption that we all agreed with that statement. Ahem. I do not agree with that statement.
